With love from LA: Los Awesome

August 9, 2009 12 Comments
bicis by the window

I was down in LA for a new york minute awhile back. People always talk smack about Los Angeles up here in Northern California, but I really like it. Angelinos have always been good peeps and visiting has always been fun. Maybe is a sports thing? I dont know, it is my home state and I love every aspect of it, north or south. Los Awesome, comes from this billboard I saw from the freeway. It made me laugh!

bici on the wall

I came across many, many bikes. These were mostly taken around the sunset blvd. when I made some time to walk around and get some food and coffee. In Silverlake I fell in love with intelligentsia. Seems like it’s the place to be. I had some iced americanos and drank them as if they were pure water. Repeat and rinse, there was a ‘small’ heatwave that seemed pretty much piping hot for my fog loving skin.

With Love From: Ethiopia

July 16, 2009 3 Comments

Over at bikejuju, Tom wrote a very nice post about his recent trip to Ethiopia that I enjoyed plenty, & I’d like to share it with you all.
Proximity in universal bicycle use, community and coffee, regardless of borders, politics and economics around the globe, somehow seem to come afloat regardless.

Very nice! here it is:

Things and Thoughts: Freedom machines.

– freedom machines by me –

Two machines that I completely love are bicycles and espresso machines. The best. I see them on a daily basis, they both make me happy every day and thanks to the interwebs, I’ve connected with people that have the same sights, with their own perspective. Bicycles and cameras bringing a caffeinated community together.
This spot to shoot a pic while enjoying your fix, a flickr pool was started, check it out 😉 The above picture I took on a recent stop (post below) to Sightglass cafe. The two below, are credited each accordingly, including the admin for the pool (orange bike picture). ♥xo.m

caffeinated destination and sweet sekai bicycle /sightglassing

Stopped by to check out Sightglass cafe on 7th st. near Folsom. Cute little work-in-progress place that has great coffee and a thing for bikes and caffeinated people that ride them. Met the barista Justin, he made my coffee and was nice. I’ll be definitely visiting this place often in the near future 😉

Hump Day Inspiration: Austin

July 2, 2009 6 Comments
Amy’s on SoCo.

The hump this Wednesday was slightly higher than usual. Today was inspired by a few things and peeps in the last week from Lone Star state. As far as Texas goes, I have only been to Austin and have nothing but super fun good times out there when I visited in 2006. Good coffee, cafes, live music everywhere, twang, longhorns, queso and huge glasses of iced tea because is so damn hot.
The bicycle community seemed pretty tight and it made a great impression on me. One of these days I’ll be roaming longhorn territory on my bike heading to a coffee shop. Some days you just gotta think outside the state, and today Austin was my focal point. Here are some of the shots from my visit in 2006:

photographer. dapper. nice. rides his bike all over Austin. I like him

Joe’s. The guys there were so rad and uber nice. I hearts.
This little cool shop was recently featured in an Anthropologie mail catalog thing. que trendy…

Via the blogesphere and pictures, the global community comes together. I have met the following online peeps from Austin, as well as other cities in Texas, that make me wanna go back, visit, ride bikes etc.
One of the first readers of this blog Lavanna, bikes around Austin and paints beautiful paintings around town. Some of the coffee houses she paints at, I’ve had happily lounged at in the past. Very cool 😉

Austin on Two Wheels is a recent fave. I came thru it from a friend that now lives there. Rad stuff.

ATX Babes on Bikes. No more be said. Would love to join a ride soon

And the calitexican. ♥!! That girl keeps teasing me with some good beats sauce. I have the feeling this second half of the year will be full my usual suspects (bikes, boys y coffee) and lots of música. wat up.

Okay people. That’s it for my longest humpday inspiration. It has been a long week, but this July 1st (half full or half empty?) marks the beginning of the 2nd half of this year. Wowza. What keeps you inspired on hump day. I obviously took a national trip here, but hey. xo/♥m
& keep Austin rad!!

Caffeinated love affair.

June 27, 2009 4 Comments

I love coffee. But that is well known. Here are some photos throughout the last few days of caffeine moments, that help me through the day. and the week. and get me together with my peeps on any give evening, weekend, occasion. The moment of riding to a café and sitting with a friend could be universal, something can be done anyplace, anywhere, regardless of location. I have never taken for granted that here in San Francisco, we have great coffee and good spots, and they are all within a bike ride. Okay, I’m done praising my love for coffee, now go ride and enjoy the lovely thick fog!!

Fairfax Festival: Riding from SF to Fairfax.

June 16, 2009 3 Comments

We met at 8am with the David Baker/SFBC organized ride. I dont think I knew what was going on until I got some coffee in my system. By 8:10am and the ride had left. Mmmh. We had plan B. I think plan B was plan A the whole time. Anyhow.
A great group. Steel frames, an xtracycle, carbon, aluminum, the frenchie, a fixie, just great. All age groups. We started snailing out from the ferry building towards the bridge. Met more peeps. Then over the bridge and met with more peeps til we reached Mill Valley. By far the most fun I’ve had in a group ride. Listening to music up camino del real was soothing and made those hills way easy. Adrienne had a little boombox with sound. Nice!
Here are some pictures of the ride (22 miles) and the Festival in Fairfax. Enjoy!
