Let’s Go Ride a Bike: Summer Olympics

May 27, 2010 1 Comment

The ladies from LGRAB have started the Summer Olympics Games.
Here are the details:

How to play, you ask? It’s easy. There are three main categories, and six events in each category. Complete events in each category over a three week period, and tell us about it via blog post link, email or photo addition to our Summer Games Flickr Pool. Entries must include a story and a photo of each event you complete. If you enter via a post on your own blog, please link to our blog announcement in your entry, include one of our badges and let us know via email.

Anyone who completes at least two events in each of the three categories will be entered to win the Batavus BuB by random drawing. We’re also giving away prizes as readers complete each category.

May 17-June 6: Social Cycling
• Go on a group ride
• Leave a nice note on a bike, or say hi to a cyclist at a red light
• Schedule a bike date with a friend or partner — dress up!
• Recruit a non-biking friend for a ride
• Ride with your family

June 7-June 27: Learning Experiences
• Perform a maintenance task — big or small!
• Decorate your bike
• Read a book about cycling
• Carry a load on your bike — groceries, etc.
• Test ride a different type of bike than you normally ride

June 28-July 18: New Territory
• Ride a greenway
• Have a bicycle picnic
• If you don’t normally ride to work, commute by bike, or by bike/train or bike/bus
• If you do commute, take the long way home: add distance to your usual ride
• Explore a new part of town by bike

Go to LetsGoRideABike.com for more details. Good luck!!

May is the month
May is the month.

This is the first time I noticed these signs. This month they are all over the Hayes Valley area, and asides the SF Bike Coalition awesome membership discounts, I looked this up for more info about this and this is what I learned:

[From SFMTA] I Bike SF is a month-to-month, neighborhood-based program geared to encourage bicycling and support local businesses. Each month a new neighborhood in San Francisco will be featured and participating businesses in that neighborhood will offer bicyclists great discounts. All residents and visitors are invited: no fees, no sign-up, simply ride to participating businesses, present your helmet or bike lock key and get great deals.
May 2010: Hayes Valley.
Learn more here: SFMTA–I Bike SF

And with a dose of Blue Bottle’s New Orleans style iced coffee, I cheer for this program – very cool stuff. Now let’s get biking people!!

At the corner of 2003 and 2010.

April 30, 2010 1 Comment

That year, I spent lots of plenty of time around this very corner. Good times and late nights. The street remains just as fast, the students are always running around (USF) and I no longer buy cigarettes at the corner in the super early mornings.
But I live in the now, so the sunset evening light seems rather similar to that early morning bright light that bothered my tired eyes to hell, when rush hour seemed hours away yet I had a bus to catch and a class to go to. Sometimes I miss school, most of the time I don’t. I loved heading to school and I loved very early early mornings.

Last week, I spent a few minutes waiting for the bus at the same corner to put both of my bikes on its rack (all SF buses are equipped with 2 of them) after visiting the bike shop. In between chatting with a friend and keeping an eye for the next bus, I snapped some shots. What would have topped it off was if the pink suit man was riding a bike. Just saying 😀
