Suspect #1

January 17, 2011 2 Comments

After spending some time with Velcro, mi beloved beautiful cat, we came to terms.
She promised me not to give Frenchie the slashing-tires treatment, since I got new rubber. Deal.

2011-01-14 22.49.51

Last week I finally got both new tires, altogether. Many thanks for all your recommendations, I really appreciate it =)
As an extension of my persona, it is quite complicated keeping up with the Frenchie, with the exception that I am not French… at any rate, the ratio of the rear can get away with being 27 x1/4 so I got the Continental Gator and for the front it has to be a 27 x1/8 due to the complication of the spacing between the basket base, the front fender and the brake.Well anyways. We are once again Polk street-ready.
This time the nice young men at the Sports Basement (I’m a huge fan of their open-late hours) took good care of Frenchie. Photographed below is Thai-Son. Sup!

New year, new gadgets. I’m stoked =)

“A bike can make all the difference in somebody’s life” -Hans Rey

December 9, 2010 1 Comment

I had not heard of Wheels4Life before. I enjoyed reading about the goals this group has formed to contribute and fundraise for a great cause, providing an efficient and access to school and multiple othe locations for everyday use indeveloping countries. I thought it was a nice cause for change and benefit of this planet and us as citizens of this world, so thought I’d share it with you all

(From Josh’s email) Founded by mountain bike legend Hans Rey, W4L is hosting an auction selling off 10 dream mountain bikes to raise money, which in turn will go toward buying bikes for developing nations. Wheels4Life is a great charity that provides much needed transportation to closed off pockets of the world, but for more information check out their website at www.wheels4life.org

A link to this video was also included in his note:

From their page: About Wheels4Life

Wheels4Life is a non-profit organization that provides bikes for people in developing countries who really need them. Often these people live in very primitive and remote areas with no access to public transportation. The closest school, doctor or work-place might be 10 or 20 miles away. In developing countries, children use bicycles to get to school, adults use them to get to work, and health care workers use them to access their patients. Without a bicycle, children can end up uneducated, families can be without enough income to survive, and illnesses are left untreated. Wheels4Life provides the life-altering mobility of a bicycle to make the daily necessities accessible. The gift of a bicycle can work miracles.

So, there are a few auctions left this month that you can participate in, if you are interseted. Not sure how many of you are into Mt. bikes, but these look pretty sweet.

Auctions

Auction 4: 12/6 – 12/12: Focus First XC and Titus El Guapo
Auction 5: 12/13 – 12/19: Focus Raven and Titus Rockstar 29
Check out more info on the auctions and bicycles here: Bid on a bike. Change a Life»

*Cross posted with collab-blog Change your life. Ride a bike!
OK, that is all for now. Now off to riding a bike =)

Random finds.

I didn’t find money this time, but came across an unoponeded pack of ciggies. More than likely fell out someone’s pockets while riding. No cars parked in the vicinity.

The bike lane at midnight.

And just when you think you are riding alone, or when it seems like so because you are feeling very (insert bitch-mode mood here), there is a little happy angel riding alongside. Nothing is better than hearing a “hey you, haven’t seen you in awhile!! how you been?!
Riding into bike lane buddies in the middle of the night, right before it begins to pour, just makes the long bike ride home a bit smoother.

Meet Veltin.
You may recognize him or maybe have seen him around town sporting his crazy fur-covered helmet. He is usually jamming to the Police or the Talking Heads mostly, that piece in his handlebars is his mini-boombox. He works late shifts and I run into him once in awhile.
Market street was very very quiet and with almost no traffic, some taxi cab even turned his window down and yelled at us “Please watch out for those tracks and don’t get caught in them”
What?
A cab that either saw someone eat it, or maybe he bikes on Market street?! who knows, but that was a first.

Late nite bike lane chats with Veltin
