Suspect #1

January 17, 2011 2 Comments

After spending some time with Velcro, mi beloved beautiful cat, we came to terms.
She promised me not to give Frenchie the slashing-tires treatment, since I got new rubber. Deal.

2011-01-14 22.49.51

Last week I finally got both new tires, altogether. Many thanks for all your recommendations, I really appreciate it =)
As an extension of my persona, it is quite complicated keeping up with the Frenchie, with the exception that I am not French… at any rate, the ratio of the rear can get away with being 27 x1/4 so I got the Continental Gator and for the front it has to be a 27 x1/8 due to the complication of the spacing between the basket base, the front fender and the brake.Well anyways. We are once again Polk street-ready.
This time the nice young men at the Sports Basement (I’m a huge fan of their open-late hours) took good care of Frenchie. Photographed below is Thai-Son. Sup!

New year, new gadgets. I’m stoked =)

The bike lane at midnight.

December 6, 2010 6 Comments

And just when you think you are riding alone, or when it seems like so because you are feeling very (insert bitch-mode mood here), there is a little happy angel riding alongside. Nothing is better than hearing a “hey you, haven’t seen you in awhile!! how you been?!
Riding into bike lane buddies in the middle of the night, right before it begins to pour, just makes the long bike ride home a bit smoother.

Meet Veltin.
You may recognize him or maybe have seen him around town sporting his crazy fur-covered helmet. He is usually jamming to the Police or the Talking Heads mostly, that piece in his handlebars is his mini-boombox. He works late shifts and I run into him once in awhile.
Market street was very very quiet and with almost no traffic, some taxi cab even turned his window down and yelled at us “Please watch out for those tracks and don’t get caught in them”
What?
A cab that either saw someone eat it, or maybe he bikes on Market street?! who knows, but that was a first.

Late nite bike lane chats with Veltin

A Bikes and the City first: a handy giveaway!

on bart

Hola all
The nice folks over at RoadID have sent me a very special item (customized by me!)
This is a band that contains basic but important info (like who to call, if your cell phone became new pavement) if any emergency was to happen.
When I first heard about them my thought was like, hey I don’t do long rides so often by myself and I’m always with people —yada yada THEN I thought *not*
I think I got a little sidetracked by the ‘typical’ hardcore athlete. You know what, the City is hardcore. Drunks, random opening doors, train fcuken tracks and steel plates on hills — that to me is pretty darn hardcore.

So I thought, ok yes – it would be cool to get one.
I have been using it for the last month or so and I really like it. Their customer service was super and word has it that they are good looking. I might have to investigate that on my own soon, since they are located in the Presidio. So watch out =)

Here it is, and it matches all my bracelet red accessorology.

2/2
mine!

Mission statement.
Our mission is two fold: One, to educate outdoor enthusiasts (runners, cyclists, triathletes, skiers, snow boarders, kayakers, walkers, and anyone that doesn’t spend all of their time on the couch) about the importance of wearing ID. Two, to provide these athletes with innovative identification products that they will want to include as part of their gear.

So, OK Dear blog friendos.
To participate in the giveaway,
1. visit their site: roadID.com to check out their products
2. and simply leave a comment on this post, on which model/or color you like and a sentence or thought about safety. Get creative! (make sure you inlcude an email or your website link in the comments/sign in username field)

A comment will be picked – by next Friday, Nov.12
Good luck!!

Otro saddle bag hack

August 18, 2010 4 Comments

Another little hack.
Since we happen to have recurring events about bags and bikes and hacks, here is yet another one. I do love my little PoCampo bag, which is pretty much meant to be a handlebar piece (review from earlier this year: Feb 8, 2010) and continuing my fond minimal love for my road bike and fond explorations of new little new bags, because honestly, I can’t have enough bags – and why not explore with already existing items.
So, after tinkering around with the straps and playing again with the key chain loops from my Brooks saddle which, after almost 2 years feels like BUTTER, this idea along. Sure it rattles a *tiny* bit, but it does not quite bother me.
So there it is, pretty much this is as girly +classy as a small, petite rear saddle bag gets.
Holds lipstick, cell phone, some cash, as always – first aid kit, safety pins included…, some lady extra stuff, pen, paper, wallet, and clipped outside, the red rear blinkie light. A little bit of gold and a pager. wooot.

Made in Chicago by a two women independent company PoCampo, ridden in San Francisco by one crayz caffeinated woman. Bring it on.

Mirror mirror on the lens

Just when I thought I was going insane seeing some kind of subliminal messages around me, I realized it really was a beer cap. This nice man let me take a picture of his bicycling mirror. Thanks!
