Farm:coffee:glitter:table

Post street
Table with a view. and frenchie and a cute green schwinn

This little gem on Post street is a must. I love open windows facing the sidewalks and minute spaces that somehow always manage to accomodate all patrons and foot traffic. On this occasion what drew me into farm:table on a super hot and sunny city day, was the gazpacho in their menu (the post it in the twitterlands on a daily basis).

caffeinated glitter awesomeness

It was a surprise to run into local artist and beautiful barista Jammie. When I walked in my eyes were attracted in light-speed quickness to this little dose of awesomeness sitting atop of the counter and I knew right away it was her work — then I looked down and there she is, working the magic machine that provides that delish liquid that I love so much.

Jamie!

My coordination was about 2 inches off and I spilled my iced americano. Good thing I have a sense of humor which the woman next to me did not have, but she also had an iPad on the table. Typical me, recking gadgets as if it was my job.

Last time I posted some photos from here was around thanksgiving time (last year’s post) and though I stop by more than a few times since then, but had not yet had a meal. I must say the gazpacho was pretty good and had lots of pepper and little chunks of avocado – which I really enjoyed. It was a good noon light lunch.

farm:table is on Post st. near Leavenworth and it carries Verve beans, from Santa Cruz.

Pica pica

October 5, 2010 5 Comments

The other night I had a bite at Pika Pika. There is one rack right across it, but in the evening, after four barrel closes, you can find some open racks on that stretch. Or across the street at little star. They close at 10PM, so just in time to get a late maiz+frijoles snack and a beer.

End of week roundup: Monday weird eats

August 27, 2010 10 Comments

While waiting to be seated inside Weird Fish the other day, there was a whipper-snapper with skinny ass jeans and a trendy messenger bag, and he walked right in front of me straight to the back, wrote down his name +his party of 3. I though maybe he was getting food to go.
Nope.

Shortly after, I asked the waitress if there was a waiting list, I also mentioned I had been standing there for about 5-10 minutes (this place is tiny), and thought it was weird no one had acknowledged me but, assumed they were just busy.
She said something like:
“Our PROTOCOL is not to sit people down, we have no hostess, so you walk yourself up and the list is up there.” Signaling towards the back of the restaurant and with tremendous sass and highly-annoyed energy.
“Oh I see” I said.
Given that many times before, they have taken my name, phone number included, just in case I wanderlusted around the sidewalk. And I have enjoyed this place plenty, and many times before. I don’t judge upon one poorly mannered staf member, so on with the evening.

Easy. I’ll just take my business somewhere else.
No big deal, really.

So instead, my dinner partner and I went to La Oaxaqueña, where I can shoot the shit, no waiting lists required, talk to all of the staff, and even get some music from these well mannered gents, on the house, upon whatever I request because I know the lyrics to all of the songs they are playing. Now that is a PROTOCOL.

Anytime.

Later that night, we ran into a bit more of a larger-scale, real weird fish in Potrero Hill.
Always a big sign that burning man is around the corner =)

Powered by pizza

August 12, 2010 3 Comments

Friday.
The Calitexican and I met up for some pre-century coffee, or snax. Turned out we had a ferocious appetite and what the hell, we were about to ride some crazy amount of miles, right?! So our bodies were attracted to the corner of 15th +Valencia as if we were bees heading to a beehive.
Little Star pizza, hello. How YA doin. We had some tremendous feast. Yes, this is the night before our 100K ride. kthx.
+big thanks to Todd our waiter. Primo service – we hearts you!!

Saturday
Ok this is right after we finished the century ride. hells yes
Roasted tomato penne pasta +pesto pasta +veggie lasagna +mashed potatoes *so goood* +pizza on top of it.
An ice-cold coke to kill the lack of caffeine grumpiness.

Sored legs. Happy belly.
Marin Century BBQ, San Rafael, Calif.

Sunday
OK, I’m not sure why I am heavier than I am. I eat a lot. I wake up I think about lunch. After lunch, I’m already planning for dinner and so on. On Sunday, the day after the 100K Marin Century -so funny- I was craving pizza. Again.
This time my male partner in pizza crimes friend and I were located this time on the north side of the San Franciscverse, in the Marina galaxy. Don’t panic, this DeLa Rosa joint, sister to the Mission’s Beretta’s, it’s pretty badass. I approve of it fondly and the staff are *super* nice. The clientele, well yes, good people watching maximus for sure. But who cares. You are there for the pizza. And they have tons of local beer including my new favorite (none above Anchor Steam, of course) Linden Street Brewery black lager. Delicious.

Pizza, it does a bikey body good.
Is it Friday yet?

lunch
lunch. chisme. +fresh air.

Don’t you ever feel that if you don’t ride your bicycle around during your lunch break, you start getting a little weird, and strange? I do. But well, I can’t always bike for lunch, so fortunately there are short walks, conversations that are not about work (thank you!), and dominoes. Good old dominoes.
What do you do during your lunch break to actually take a break?
